From difficulty to presentation and experience, we rank the best boss fights in Black Myth: Wukong.
Elder Jinchi is the first secret boss that you will encounter in the latter half of Chapter 1. While easy to miss, the boss battle itself is a bit similar to fighting against the Wandering Wight , as they both look identical and also share some moves.
How To Find Elder Jinchi
To unlock Elder Jinchi, you will have to ring three bells in Chapter 1. The first bell can be rung after defeating Guanghzi in the Forest of Wolves area. The second bell can be reached right after defeating Guangmao in the Bamboo Groove Area. The third and final bell is found after defeating the Whiteclad Noble near the Marsh of the White Mist Keeper’s Shrine.
You can still unlock this boss fight if you’ve defeated the other bosses but didn’t ring the three bells. Just go back to the location of each bell and ring them.
After defeating the Whiteclad Noble, there’s a small pathway to the left, leading up to the third bell. You’ll encounter a horde of wolf Yaoguai here. If you’ve rung the previous two bells, you’ll be immediately transported to the Ancient Guanyin Temple Secret Area after ringing the final bell.
After being transported to the Ancient Guanyin Temple, you have to walk upstairs and open the temple’s door. Elder Jinchi will be waiting inside the temple grounds. Make sure to check out the three chests towards the right side of the Keeper’s Shrine before heading into the boss arena.
After arriving at the Ancient Guanyin Temple, we recommend you rest at the Keeper’s Shrine there to craft and equip the Serpentscale Armor set and the Twin Serpent Staff, which becomes available after defeating the Whiteclad Noble.
Elden Jinchi Attacks
Attacks | Description | How To Avoid |
---|---|---|
Palm Force | This is a ranged attack that is easy to notice when the boss is about to use it, but because of the delay due to the attack animation, it becomes difficult to dodge it precisely. Elder Jinchi will most likely use this attack when the Destined One is far away. | Dodging forward at the correct time will avoid this attack, but be wary of the delay. Another way to perfectly avoid this attack is to immobilize the boss during the animation, allowing you to dish out decent damage. |
Hand Sweeps | Elder Jinchi will often throw out this attack at close range. The boss will sweep with both of his hands, making up a cloud of dust in a small AOE. | This attack is easy to avoid by dodging away from the boss. You can also simply sprint away from the boss to get out of this attack’s range. |
Head Smash | If you’re near Elder Jinchi’s face, he’ll throw out this move where he smashes his giant head on the ground. It deals a considerable amount of damage. | This attack is easy to avoid because of the small range. You can simply move out of the range or dodge away from the boss, but you’ll have to be wary and not get caught by this attack during one of your combos. |
Foot Stomp | The Foot Stomp is another attack Elder Jinchi will be using a lot at close range. When it connects, it will knock the Destined One down, enabling further offense from the boss. | You can simply dodge to the sides to avoid this attack. |
Exploding Pilgrims | During the boss battle, Elder Jinchi will command the pilgrims who are spread throughout the arena to attack you. They’ll run towards you while glowing and then explode after a short delay. | You can kill the pilgrims inside the temple with one hit. Killing them will also heal you, so it's a good strategy to shift your focus from the boss to start killing the pilgrims. However, you’ll have to keep your distance from Elder Jinchi as he’ll be attacking you alongside the pilgrims. |
Ground Burst | Elder Jinchi will yell and put his palm on the ground, causing the ground to explode. The boss can explode the ground up to four times. Each burst will cover more area. The boss may also stop after doing just one burst. | The best way to avoid this attack is to just sprint out of the range. It is difficult to avoid the explosions by dodging, so immobilize the boss during the attack or get out of the attack’s range. |
Clap | The boss will often run up to the Destined One and throw a big clap, knocking him down. | This attack can be easily avoided by dodging in any direction at the correct time. |
This boss fight is unique because there are many pilgrims in the arena. These pilgrims don’t usually attack you unless Elder Jinchi commands them. These pilgrims will then start glowing as they run towards you and explode. However, killing these pilgrims also heals a small portion of your health, making it easy to heal yourself without relying on the gourd.

Take down Black Myth: Wukong's first big boss, Lingxuzi.
How To Defeat Elder Jinchi
Elder Jinchi will cast the ranged Palm Force attack as you enter the arena. This attack has an infinite range, and the animation is very delayed. Try to Immobilize him right away so you don’t have to worry about dodging at the correct time.
The general strategy for this boss fight is to stay in mid-range of the boss, get your attacks in, and run away. Most of his stronger attacks have a very short range. If you get hit, attack the pilgrims nearby to heal your health. Watch out for the Ground Burst attack, as you wouldn’t want to get caught in an area where you can’t back off to escape the attack’s range.
After you’ve taken out half his HP, Elder Jinchi will start to levitate and meditate. During this moment, you will be unable to deal damage to him. One by one, the pilgrims will start to spawn at the edges of the boss arena and walk toward the levitating boss to heal him.
You can try to kill as many pilgrims as possible, but even if a few pilgrims escape, the boss recovers most of his health. Don't fret too much, as the boss won’t heal himself again. His attacks remain the same even after he has recovered his HP and you can continue to follow the same strategy to wear him down slowly until he’s dead.
Rewards For Defeating Elder Jinchi
Defeating Elder Jinchi, a Yaoguai King boss, rewards the player with the Fireproof Mantle vessel. You don’t get this item right away. After defeating the boss, the Destined One will be teleported back to the third bell, near the Whiteclad Noble’s arena.
Here, you will find a wolf’s corpse hanging from a tree. Interacting with it will cause the corpse to disappear, and the player will receive the Fireproof Mantle.
This item greatly increases your resistance to burn damage and can be activated to gain immunity from burn damage for a short while. Towards the end of Chapter 1, the Fireproof Mantle will be the first vessel you receive in the game.
